In this document, we will explain the main concepts, beliefs, and principles that drive

the development of our Web Collaboration platform [Perspective].  

Mind your business!

This catch-phrase is an essential illustration of our approach.

As consultants, project managers, employees, CxO, we all do acknowledge that we have more and more tools available to communicate instantly with the whole wide world; whatever, whenever, wherever we want (Tweet, Email, SMS, Whatsapp, Skype).

We are now able to exchange documents, on Google and Microsoft Drive's or in any other Boxes, Share, Teams, or Places. It has never been that easy to "communicate".

And yet...

Do the following simple test, try to walk randomly in any company and ask the first employee you cross path,

"What are the main three objectives your top management decided to put as a priority for the company this year ?".

Given that they are generally more employees than CEOs in most companies, the chance is excellent that the answer will be, at best, partial.

If you're lucky, your designated candidate would be able to tell you where the corresponding presentation is probably stored or in a still more optimistic scenario to utter a few words from the original speech of the big boss. 

It's generally true the other way around too, if you ask your beloved CEO, what is the status of one specific project... he won't probably be able to provide you with an answer right away, but he probably knows whom he should ask to get a response relatively quickly (better not walk randomly in the corridor at that moment ;-)

If the operational teams and the management are not on the same page about the vision and the required actions, what is the chance the company will reach any ambitious objectives?

Putting the big picture first

At IO.LAND, we must admit, we're not exactly democratic when it comes to documents. Not all information is equal!

Depending on the perspective you are interested in, some documents are more important than others.

Let's say your sales manager has only 5 minutes, to convince a prospect that you got all the experience to execute its biggest project, you probably don't want to dig into the details of some insignificant small project. You want to avoid the noise and communicate the big picture. 

A la Pareto, often, a kernel of 20% of your content is rich enough to consume 80% of your attention. 

We advocate sharing ideas before documents! Don't let the details bury the original vision, keep it alive, accessible, shared and discussed

Putting it all in context

Effective execution is only possible if the vision and then the strategy is

linked to each component of a project.

Be Collaborative or nothing.

The challenge is to foster real collaboration that leads to the joint production of the deliverables. The failed act of cooperation often consists of successfully deploying only a shared container of individual ideas.

Encouraging persistence

The current trend is towards multi-tasking. Without integrating the private sphere dimension, we all do a lot of parallel actions every day. This variety undoubtedly constitutes a richness in our careers. However, our ability to change context quickly without losing efficiency is quite limited. Our tools must allow us to limit complexity when we shift in setting.

 

Illustrating the proportions


In a digital context, quantities have also become virtual, and, unlike the machine, humans use their traditional senses to determine the priority, volume, and urgency of the actions to be taken. The proportion is indispensable for decision-making: risk A is ten times greater than risk B. However, the numerical value linked to risk becomes abstract when the number of projects, actions, and tasks increases exponentially.

 

Favouring the Space-Time Perspective


Management is a discipline that mainly manipulates abstract concepts without physical consistency (priorities, tasks, responsibilities, functionalities). However, our analytical capacity is decoupled when we are able to materialize objects in a more concrete way. Systematically situating in space and time is a first means of giving substance and therefore allowing us to appropriate the material.

Facilitating creative communication

Creativity increases adherence to the project, both for those who nourish the project with an original contribution and thus see themselves recognized, and for those who consume and feel by their adherence themselves part of the movement. Creativity gives colour to the project, the mindset that makes two projects with similar content, are not the same.

CTRL + ALT + DELETE -> Restart

If it is indeed the key sequence that allows you to restart (originally) your computer, it is also our synthesis of an Agile approach to management: to equip ourselves with a tool that allows :

 

[CTRL] an efficient control of the project status,
[ALT] to allow for the evaluation of alternatives to be implemented,
[DELETE] Delete what doesn't work and start again.
Malleable

 

Modern agility must allow you to change your vision at your fingertips, adapt the parameters of your project while keeping all the stakeholders on board.
